Blue Tide Swim Team
Being a part of our team is so much more than swimming. We teach sportsmanship and competition skills.
We are a Swim Team who swims for the Ridgway YMCA but we swim at the St Marys Area High School. We are…
- Male & Female Swimmers ages 5-18 (who swim against swimmers in our own age group)
- A team who swims local, with the opportunity to swim district, state, & nationally
- A team that is trained by YMCA certified coaches, who are also certified in lifeguarding, 1st Aid, and CPR
- A team that competes in meets run by YMCA certified Officials
- A team that is well run by the Blue Tide Swim boosters who are bound by a set of by-laws of the team as well as the league
Do you have to know how to swim?
NO. BUT you DO need to be able to float, doggy paddle, put your face in the water. You must be able to jump into the water and get back to the edge of the pool. (Unfortunately, we are not swimming lessons)
Someone from the coaching staff will be working with all new swimmers on a one-to-one basis, and it will be determined by the head coach if he/she has proper swim abilities to be a part of the Blue Tide Swim Team.
What will you learn when you are part of our team?
- All 4 Swim Strokes – Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, & Butterfly
- How to Dive, do Flip Turns, and Finishes
- Stretching/fitness training
- Eating for an athlete
- Sportsmanship and competition skills
(We use visual aids, drills, and lots of practice to learn all these things)
